The new game: Developers Blog
So Grave, Siren, and I started a game today. I have quite a few already half finished but this one seems more important at the moment. We want it to be a browser/mobile based game with lots of rp but also pvp in it. We're definitely open for suggestions but those will be in another thread. This one is basically just to keep people updated as to what has actually been completed.
Today Grave got a good start on getting a basic map and travel plan together. The game is set in north Wales, with 5 cities as initial starting points. We also started putting together stat charts and lists of items that can be farmed, gathered and crafted.
Siren has offered to do graphics, and the game itself is being coded in php with a Bootstrap front end (for those other coding monkeys out there!) This ensures it's still easily playable on phones and tablets via a browser. We can develop for Android or Iphone later if it pans out.
Will post more specifics as they come.

Grave implemented travel today. Hurray! So we now have 5 cities and various nodes between that you can travel across.
I'll pulled together a list of starter foods:
Oats - Grain Farming
Wheat- Grain Farming
Turnip- Vegetable Farming
Leek- Vegetable Farming
Cabbage- Vegetable Farmng
Milk- Milk Farming
Egg - Egg Farming
Chicken- Meat Processing chicken
Beef - Meat Processing cow
Water- Water Foraging
Apple- Fruit Foraging
Berries- Fruit Foraging
Mushrooms- Vegetable Foraging
Trout - Fish Fishing - River
Salmon - Fish Fishing - River
Cod - Fish Fishing - Coastal
Haddock- Fish Fishing - Coastal
Pheasant- Game Hunting
Duck - Game Hunting
Venison - Game Hunting
Yeast - Yeast Vendor
Salt - Salt Vendor
Flour - Flour Processing wheat
I've also created over 20 new recipes that you'll be able to "discover" as RaiRai suggested in the other thread.
You can see from the above list there are plenty of different crops to farm, fish to catch, meat to hunt. And there will be more added in, including some ultra rare items.

Buildings:
So instead of buying workshops, you get to buy a building. In that building you will be able to place a "tool" such as brewing equipment, a weavers loom, or a jeweler's bench. You will be able customise the description and look of the building and also set up your own personal shop to sell whatever items you wish to sell. What we hope is that this enables people to create great stories and towns will have a personality!
Ideas:
Tavern = Brewing equipment so that you can make and sell your own beer!
Church = Set up an altar and allow people to come in and worship the religion of your choice
Inn (or brothel?) = Private rooms you can hire out to travelers
All items will have a durability and wear out eventually so there will always be a market for your goods!
Best bit? The framework for all this is coded. Grave is just waiting for me to fill in the item tables with recipes, weights, and item durability.
If there is any "profession" in particular you want to see in the game, please let me know. Happy to add it.

Re: The new game: Developers Blog
Crafting pretty much finished now, as in the 1+1 = recipe bit works.
Interface set up so you can buy and customise your own buildings is working.
More icons finished (Thanks, Siren!)

We're headed up to Wales this weekend to take more photos of places that will be in the game. Definitely need a screen break at the moment!
Re: The new game: Developers Blog
Chicken, such a vague concept .... (Makes icons for chicken alive! Chicken dead and plucked, Chicken cooked hehehe)
On a more serious note, I would appreciate any suggestions for a colour palette to work with. Â It would need to be something that will be easy for people to see.
Some ideas I have had are:
I may have a slight bias towards certain colours (like blue ) so this is why I am asking for suggestions, especially as I have a particular bias against brown too

This all sounds great guys, I can't wait to see it.
Are things going too be lifelike ie: if you have chickens can you harvest the eggs...or slaughter the chickens for meat? Same with cows - milk and beef

Re: The new game: Developers Blog
So yeah, I've been quiet but this is still going on.
Grave has tidied up a lot of the game play. Trading, travel, foraging, crafting all coded.
We're really hoping to get people to start testing next month so I'm hoping there will be a few volunteers?

http://forum.renaissancekingdoms.com/viewtopic.php?t=2343649 Its here for now, though i may move it forward and start a new thread. You could advise us by pigeon when you get mine about the kidnapping. I've said that you had no advance knowledge of the caper, but that the ransom should be sent to you as you would know how to reach us. You could really do any number of things to spice up the roleplay, that's just a suggestion.
Please cut me in on the new game, i'd love to playtest or consult or whatever.

Should professions be specific to buildings? Perhaps you could acquire brewing equipment and place it in your hovel to start brewing, but the capacity is limited by your space, so you'll want to purchase a building for the sole purpose of brewing.
I don't like how professions work in RK where once you level up you become a craftsman. I would find it more rewarding if professions were skills you picked up along the way. Somewhere in the game you can find a recipe for pants, cider, bread, knives, or whatever, and then if you get the acquired items and the needed amount of space then you can create them. Enough practice making one item can reveal other recipes. If you make a lot of knives, you could make them progressively bigger until you lean how to make swords.
So people wouldn't level up into a profession, they would collect enough recipes involving the same equipment where it would make sense to advertise themselves as a professional.
I would find it more rewarding to hunt down all the blacksmithing knowledge within Wales then find a generic space I work into smithy so that I can turn iron into tools.
Just food for thought.

Re: The new game: Developers Blog
We're about a month away from alpha testing I'd say. Lots done but some bits like combat/bounty hunting we are waiting on. We want to see how people feel about stats and such before we start inflicting penalties.
We have a name, Tales and Taverns. You can follow dev on Twitter @talesandtaverns for now until we get a proper dev blog up and running.
If anyone has ideas for how the game should actually look, that would be helpful! Would really appreciate any logo, colour scheme ideas and such!
Oh yeah, and it appears that Raider has some crazy scheme up his sleeve that is pulling me back here so I'm guessing I'll be around more in the near future. (Or so she says....we all know how that works out sometimes. )
I'd love to try and arrange a group chat for all interested in giving opinions about T&T, maybe in the chat here? What do you guys think?
Hugs all round!

Corwyn, so glad you're getting to come to the UK! TT lives about 2 hours drive from me but if you guys find yourselves near Oxford or in the Cotswolds, let me know. I'm up for a meet up if you guys are!
